At M7's Toy Shelties, we are a family of breeders and partners who are dedicated to raising high-quality, genetically tested Sheltie puppies. Our primary focus is on the health and temperament of our dogs, specializing in AKC Undersized or "Toy Sized" Shelties. We breed from generations of small Shelties, ensuring our puppies are genetically healthy and the perfect size for your family.
The original Sheltie breed and size (same as what we raise) were developed in the Shetland Isles and imported to the U.S. beginning in the 1930's. When arriving in the states, they were bred to Collies to increase their size which is what the AKC standard is based on. Our preference and goal is to breed puppies back to the original UK type and size. This allows our dogs to be transported with us wherever we go. Our puppies travel with us on planes, boats and in cars from a very young age.
We start out with Early Neurological Stimulation from Day 3-16 which is referred to as the neonatal period. This Method was first developed by the Military to improve the performance of dogs. During this period the puppies eyes and ears are still closed and they are extremely sensitive and receptive to stimulations/stressors. ENS helps to desensitize a puppy during the neonatal period to human touch and handling which desensitizes and allows them to handle future stressful situations in a healthier way. We find that there is less anxiety, aggression and fear in puppies that have experienced this method allowing them to build a stronger bond with you.
The Puppy Culture Method introduces our puppies to age appropriate sounds, sights, smells, textures, people and environments at the proper times so that they are able to overcome any fears and be confident and well adjusted in their new homes. We do our very best to set our puppies up for success from the very beginning!
All of our dogs have had genetic testing done including: CEA - Collie Eye Anomally, DM - Degenerative Myelopathy, MDR1 - Multi Drug Resistance, BBS2- Progressive Retinal Atrophy, CNGA1/PRA - Progressive Retinal Atrophy, vWD3 - von Willebrand's Disease Type 3 as well as DMS - Dermatomyositis which many breeders still are not testing for.
We offer puppy loving flight nanny services to our families that are too far to drive to us or meet to pick up their baby. Our flight nanny is a personal friend who flies into the closest major airport to you. She has helped place our babies in 42 different states! Our families that have used her absolutely RAVE about her care of their puppy and how the puppy was so confident and unaffected by the flight. Prices do vary depending on location and flights available.
We do our very best to answer each and every question that a new puppy family may have. I will list a few that we get quite often from new/prospective families here.
1. Has my puppy been de-wormed?
YES! We de-worm at 2, 4, 6 & 8 weeks.
2. Have the dewclaws been removed?
YES! We usually remove both front and back dewclaws. However, if a baby is REALLY tiny or is struggling at birth, we may not be able to do so. We will let you know if this is the case but it does not happen often!
3. What is my puppy eating?
We feed all of our puppies Purina Pro Plan which is suggested and approved by our vets. At 8 weeks of age, our puppies are eating 1/4 cup at each meal.
4. When can my puppy come home?
The majority of our puppies are ready to leave at 8 weeks of age as long as they are big enough and eating well. Once in a while we like to have some stay a little longer so that they can continue to grow and learn from mom. There is so much developing that happens at that early stage so if we think it would be beneficial for your puppy, we will let you know.
5. Registration
Our full AKC Sheltie puppies will come with Limited Registration as they are sold as pets/companions. We offer full breeding rights on a very limited basis for an additional fee.
6. Should I spay/neuter my puppy
Our preference (suggestion) is to wait until 24 months to spay/neuter. The AKC suggests 24 months. There are many studies today suggesting the many health benefits of waiting especially for the smaller breeds.
